How and Why

At this open day there was a lot going on in the background and I chose this viewpoint to try and exclude some of the distracting background elements.

The steam engine was doing circuits so I could get a repeat of the framing. I was hoping to get some images full of steam to provide atmosphere - unfortunately the demonstration took place in the summer and the hot weather meant that the steam didn't hang around long, I did get one other photograph that includes more steam and is closer to what I'd previsualised.

I like the way the front axle is angled showing the large machine's maneuverability and the concentration on the face of the driver indicating his precision of control. I also like the fact that there's nothing in the picture to date it.

Background

This photograph was taken at an open day where steam enthusiasts demonstrate their beautifully restored and maintained machines to the public.
