How and Why

This photograph is taken at the beginning of a hound trailing event with the hounds assembled on the starting line. I chose a low viewpoint to be on the same eye level as the hounds.

I really like the strong sense of anticipation in the facial expressions and postures of the hounds and owners alike.

Background

Hound trailing in Cumbria where hounds follow a scent trail along the fells. The trail is laid by dragging a hessian sack along the route prior to the race, the sack is filled with a combination of paraffin and aniseed providing a distinctive scent for the hounds to follow.
