How and Why

I like the curiosity invoked by this image of what might be taking place and the way that the excluded elements increase the possible interpretation of the scene.

The inclusion of the Eiffel Tower reflection provides a hint at the location of the photograph due to the distinctive cast iron metalwork. The framing also simplifies the scene tremendously removing cluttered background elements and I like the sense of vacancy created by the disparate components of the composition.

With the 17 mm focal length an aperture of f5.6 has allowed sufficient depth of field to render all the elements in the scene in sharp focus. Technically this wasn't a difficult image to make - I applied -0.7 exposure compensation to preserve the dark tones of the tarmac and the only aspects that I really had to concentrate on were the composition and timing of the exposure.

Background

Below the Eiffel Tower, Paris. A positive aspect of the wet weather during this visit to Paris was the fantastic potential for capturing reflections of the city's landmarks.
